During the sacred days of Muharram 2024, particularly on the Day of Ashura, scouts across Sindh, Pakistan, played a significant role in assisting and guiding the mourning processions and gatherings organized to honor Imam Hussain (Alayhi al-salām). This year, over 5,000 scouts from the Sindh Boy Scouts Association stepped up to provide essential services and ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.

Scouts' Services Across Sindh

Medical Aid and Assistance

In various cities, scouts led processions, set up first aid camps along the routes, and distributed water and food to the mourners. Their efforts were widely appreciated by both government officials and the general public.

Locations of Services

Scouts were active in cities such as Sukkur, Rohri, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Kandhkot, Larkana, Ranipur, Shikarpur, Naushahro Feroze, Tando Adam, Tando Allahyar, Moro, Badin, Thatta, Jamshoro, Mirpur Khas, Ghotki, and Qambar Shahdadkot. In these areas, scouts from local groups provided various services, from leading the processions to ensuring cleanliness and security along the routes.

Scout Groups

  • Larkana: Indus Scouts, Mehran Scouts, Shah Latif Scouts, Al Ghazi Scouts, Al Mohammadi Scouts, Peace Scouts, Kenjhar Scouts, Universal Scouts, Al Mujahid Scouts, Al Madina Scouts, Pak Hyderi Scouts, and Al Abbas Scouts played a crucial role in managing the events and setting up first aid camps.

  • Khairpur: Al Shahbaz Scouts, Khairpur Scouts, Jejal Scouts, Al Mehdi Scouts, Al Abbas Scouts, Pak Hyderi Scouts, Al Hussaini Scouts, and Shehzad Scouts led the processions and organized medical camps, water stands, and food distribution.

  • Sukkur and Rohri: Sindh Ghazi Scouts, Imamia Scouts, and Al Shahbaz Scouts actively participated in both the gatherings and processions by setting up medical camps and providing food and water.

  • Other Cities: Scouts in cities like Jacobabad, Hyderabad, Shikarpur, Badin, Thatta, Mirpur Khas, Jamshoro, Tando Adam, Naushahro Feroze, Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, and Shaheed Benazirabad also took the lead in the central processions, offering first aid and maintaining security.

Notable Leaders

Scout leaders like Shabbir Ali Sheikh, Muhammad Islam Kamboh, Liaquat Ali Mallah, Zawar Mushtaq Ali Arijo, Nizamuddin Sheikh, and many others supervised the scouts’ activities, ensuring everything ran smoothly.

Scouts' Services in Karachi

In Karachi, more than 30 registered scout groups from the Karachi Open District provided their services during Muharram. Starting from the early days of the month, these scouts worked tirelessly to support mourners and maintain order during the processions.

Key Contributions

Leading Processions and Setting Up Camps

Procession Leadership: Butrab Scouts, Pak Hyderi Scouts, and Abu-al-Hassan Scouts took charge of leading the main processions on 8th, 9th, and 10th Muharram.

Supporting Scouts: Groups like Pak Eagle Scouts, Abu Talib Scouts, Pak Qasimi Scouts, Al Abbas Scouts, Al Khuddam Scouts, Asna Ashri Scouts, Sadaqeen Scouts, New Rizvia Scouts, Gulistan Scouts, Hussaini Scouts, and many more were instrumental in setting up first aid camps and providing water and food along the routes.

Girls Scouts' Participation

Girl scouts, alongside their male counterparts, actively participated by offering guidance, security checks, parking services, and setting up medical camps, ensuring a supportive environment for all attendees.

Leadership and Coordination

Sindh Boy Scouts Association’s provincial secretary, Syed Akhtar Meer, Karachi Open District Boy Scouts Association’s commissioner Justice (R) Hassan Feroz, and other notable figures visited scout camps across the city. They appreciated the scouts’ dedication and acknowledged their contributions.

Control Room

A control room was also established at the provincial scouts’ headquarters to oversee the activities, led by Leader Trainers Muhammad Ismail Khan. This setup ensured effective coordination and rapid response to any issues.

The scouts’ commitment and hard work during Muharram have been commendable, ensuring a safe and organized environment for mourners across Sindh and Karachi. Their services were not only appreciated by the participants but also recognized by various governmental bodies, highlighting the vital role scouts play in community service.
