The Wood Badge Course offers advanced leadership training through practical sessions and projects, aimed at enhancing scouting skills. Successful completion earns participants a prestigious Wood Badge, symbolizing leadership excellence.

The Wood Badge Course consists of three parts:

1. Part One: Training Course

2. Part Two: Project

3. Part Three: Parchment

1. Shaheen/Scout/Rover Wood Badge Training Course

Objectives

After completing this course, the Scout Leader will be able to:

  1. Help Scouts earn all ranks and proficiency badges.
  2. Run the unit effectively using the training received.
  3. Plan the unit’s annual program.

Organization

To conduct this course, approval from the Director Adult Training is necessary. The Provincial Association must provide the following information to the National Headquarters at least one month in advance:

  • (a) Dates
  • (b) Location
  • (c) Course Leader and Training Team

The National Headquarters can also organize a Wood Badge Course if needed.

Eligibility

  • Education: Minimum qualification of Matric (equivalent to high school diploma).
  • Must have attended the Shaheen/Scout/Rover Leader Course in the last five years. Otherwise, they need to retake the relevant course or attend a workshop.
  • For Shaheen Wood Badge: Completion of the Shaheen Leader Course is mandatory.
  • For Scout or Rover Wood Badge: Completion of any one of the initial courses in these sections is acceptable.
  • Must have successfully led or assisted their unit for at least one year, conducted at least six unit meetings, and kept records of them.

Course Report

The Course Leader is responsible for sending a detailed report of the course to the National Headquarters via the Provincial Association within fifteen days of the course completion. The report should include:

  1. Names and addresses of the Course Leader and Training Staff.
  2. Names, addresses, and number of participants.
  3. Projects undertaken by the participants and the names of their counselors.

2. Wood Badge Project

Before the end of the Wood Badge Training Course, the trainee Scout Leader must finalize one project from the given options with the help of their Patrol Counselor and inform the Course Leader. Upon successful completion of the project, the National Headquarters will send a certificate and a questionnaire to the Scout Leader. The completed questionnaire, along with the Wood Badge Parchment form, must be sent to the National Headquarters through the Provincial Headquarters. Successful completion will result in the issuance of the Parchment.

3. Parchment

The District Scout Commissioner will review the Scout Leader's performance and submit a report to the Provincial Headquarters on a prescribed form. The report will include details of the Scout Leader's abilities, practical skills, and the impact of their training on youth, along with a recommendation for the Wood Badge. The certified copies of the certificate will be issued by the National Headquarters based on the recommendation of the Provincial Headquarters. The certificate, signed by the Chief Commissioner and Director of Training and Program, will allow the wearing of two Beads, the distinctive insignia of the Wood Badge.
